Maria Bengston: it used to be film speed. the films sensitivity to light. the term is still used to talk about sensor sensitvity. the speed at which it reacts to light. high iso is more noisey, or "grainy"
Stephnie Patout: ISO is a measure of how sensitive the camera is to light.100 is the least sensitive to light and 1600+ is the most sensitive to light. At high ISO you run into the issue of getting grainy photos.
