Monroe Rainey: that really depends on what service your getting. but for most us carriers like t mobile at&t verizon and alltel you dont need a data plan. Exeptions being the i phone and t mobile g and my thouch 3g. However if you seem to be gettign an uber discount on some smartphone it may be only if you get a data plan.it is better to get the phone from an authorized retailer rather than the official store because they will just cancel the plan after 3 days to give you the rebate....Show more
