Getting a Foreign Aircraft Certified to Fly in the U.S.?

Lucille Saetteurn: Competent authority from Mexico must issue a foreign C of A to allow the aircraft to fly within the airspace of US Territory. When the aircraft landed in US they must apply another C of A to FAA. Certificate of Airworthiness

Toby Caswell: Is the airplane with a FAA Type Certificate ?Is the airplane Certificated under FAR 23 or 25...?

Rosalba Lingner: As a Quality Inspector in an MRO taking care of return to lease aircraft I think this is all you need to do. The aircraft should be de-registered first (if still with its Mexican registry) and then re-register again now to N registry. Now an FAA A&P certified on that aircraft can observe while the aircraft is being check and tested and being put into a flyable state again. If the aircraft is now serviceable a test flight is required to complete the check of the aircraft. Here again the aircraft is de-reg to Mexican registry and can now perform a test flight. Upon successful test flight the aircr! aft again is re-reg to N registry and a certified quality inspector will issue the aircraft airworthiness certificate. The FAA A&P license holder certified on that aircraft can now release the aircraft for its "return to service" and you can now ferry the aircraft to USA..As for the cost leave it to Marketing & Finance guys...Show more
