Reference Checks?

Felicitas Phildor: Legally they are only suppose to confirm your employment. All references are to be directed to the Human Resources department, so that questions can be answered within the legal boundaries. However that does not always happen and remember there are ways to get the information without asking direct questions.

Shad Bushweller: Some companies are so fearful of reprisals from a former employee, that they will only state whether the person worked for them and are subject to rehire. It depends on the company. In reality, if the company gives a negative reference and the information is true, there is little that can be done.

Manie Labat: They can tell the truth. However, most former employers won't say much more than that you are either eligible for rehire or you are not.
